Deer Island Oyster Company invites you to try our premium, farm raised oysters grown just south of Deer Island in Biloxi, Miss. Our off-bottom aquaculture methods provide a sustainable premium oyster.
 
The innovative methods we use to raise the Eastern Oysters allow them to grow faster than traditional on-bottom farming practices. Deer Island Oysters are carefully raised a few inches below the surface of the Mississippi Sound where the nutrients are most abundant.
 
If you pride yourself on being an oyster connoisseur or are a budding oyster eater we encourage you to try ours. These oysters offer a sweet and buttery flavor with a smooth texture. The oysters hold a consistent salinity level that Gulf Coast oysters are known for.
 
We are locally owned and operated by Kevin Gabbert and Mark McQueen, both longtime Coastal Mississippi residents. Deer Island Oyster Company is creating much sought after jobs in the Mississippi oyster industry that has struggled since Katrina. Prior to the 2005 catastrophic hurricane that ravaged our coast; Mississippi had the largest natural oyster reef in the world. Events like the BP Oil Spill and most recently the Bonnet Carre Spillway opening have not allowed our oyster reef time to recover.
 
Deer Island Oyster Company strives to make Coastal Mississippi a thriving oyster region again. The off-bottom aquaculture technology is an innovation to adapt the oyster farming industry and bring growth back to our seafood industry.
 
Initially these oysters are available exclusively to Half Shell Oyster House restaurants across the southeast. Be sure to inquire about the availability of the Southern Pearl oysters on your next visit.
